The Lester Piano Co. was a Philadelphia maker founded in 1888, with a factory in Tinicum Township, and it supplied many of the city's public schools. It got through the Depression partly with its low-cost Betsy Ross spinets and consoles, made from 1936 to 1960. The company closed in 1961, citing strong competition.
