Charles Albrecht was a German-born joiner who settled in Philadelphia in the 1780s and began making pianos around 1789, among the earliest built in America. His shop produced square pianos into the 1820s; his son Christian later ran the business as Charles Albrecht & Co. A mahogany Albrecht piano is held by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
