Mendelssohn
The Mendelssohn Piano Company of Toronto was formed in 1892, when Henry Durke and David M. Best bought a failing firm of that name; Durke was sole owner by 1897. It made moderately priced pianos on Adelaide Street West and had built about 25,000 by 1919, when Bell Piano and Organ Co. of Guelph took it over. The Lesage company of Quebec later used the name into the early 1970s.
