Where to find the serial number on a Franklin piano
- Upright piano: open the top lid and look at the cast-iron plate near the tuning pins, usually on the left or right side.
- Grand piano: look on the plate near the tuning pins, under the music desk, or on the soundboard beside the plate.
- It may also be stamped on the back of the case, under the keyboard, or on the keyframe — check with a flashlight.
- Ignore model numbers and patent dates: the serial number is usually 4 to 7 digits long.
Good to know
- The year in the chart is when the piano was manufactured, not when it was first sold.
- Our Franklin records cover 1900 to 1933. If your number is outside this range, the result shows the closest year we have.
- Pianos built decades ago often need more than a tuning: worn hammers, loose tuning pins and dry wood are common. A technician can tell you what yours needs.
