Packard

Packard began in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1871 as the Packard Organ Company, set up by Isaac Packard after the Chicago fire, and added pianos around 1894. It used fine veneers and was an early adopter of the eight-hour day; during World War I it also made wooden aircraft propellers. The Fort Wayne plant shut in 1930, and Story & Clark bought the company in 1938.
